TCC Presents report August 2015

Welcome everybody. – It is a sad month for all of us on the Tuggeranong Community Council, as we learnt of the passing of our much loved and dedicated Tuggeranong Community Council (TCC) President, Eric Traise.

Eric passed away early Monday morning, 13 July after a long illness. The retired Royal Australian Air Force Officer from Newcastle served on the TCC for many years as a general member, Treasurer and TCC President in 2013 and, despite his illness, he stood and was re-elected for 2nd term in September 2014.  He also served as Chair of Canberra Airport’s Community Aviation Consultative Group.

The TCC Executive and general members express their deepest sympathies to Carole and members of the family at this sad time. A private family service was held on Friday 17 July with a memorial service to be held at 2.00pm on Friday 14 August in the Common Room of University House at ANU.

Last Tuesday night the 28th July a number of us attended a Community Forum Open House looking at proposals to help overcome the problems of Lake Tuggeranong. This forum (one of 6 throughout Canberra) was designed to give community members the opportunity to explore and discuss options for water quality infrastructure development in Lake Tuggeranong.  It was also an opportunity to meet the project team and for us to capture any additional ideas for water quality infrastructure and feedback on the options presented.  I have here some of the paperwork from the Open Night showing some of the 30 options.  Please look at in the Break and give me any feedback so I can send a response from the Council

In relation to this you should have received in you letter boxes this Pamphlet on “Have you say about water quality in your region”.  If you any of you have not already fill in the survey, please consider doing so.  It closes on August 14 and completed surveys will go into a prize draw.  We need to keep the pressure up on government and show that the people of Tuggeranong are very concerned about water quality in our region.

To continue the idea of being more informed about what is happening in Tuggeranong and bringing more people on board, Max and I met with Jodee Marques, the Centre Manager of the Tuggeranong Hyperdome.  She has offered to come to one on our later meetings this year to update us about what is happening in the Hyperdome.  I then spoke to Julie Murkins, Principal of Lake Tuggeranong College.  I gave her paperwork about the Lake consultation so that the college could put in a response to the Lake proposals and asked her about seeing if she could organise students to talk at one of our meetings later on in the year about what they want for Tuggeranong.

I mentioned last time about the park bench to be placed at Tuggeranong Town Park dedicated in memory of our late friend Rusty Woodward. The original dedication was deferred until this Sunday 9 August at 2pm. All are welcome

I would like to remind people that our AGM will be held on Tuesday the 41st September. Please consider nominating for the committee though I should remind people to be eligible, they need to be financial and have attended 4 meeting throughout the previous year. Details will on our TCC website including nomination forms which need to be handed into Beverley or Wayne 10 days before the meeting i.e. by the 20 August.  They will then be passed onto returning officer.
