"Tuggeranong Community Council - Working with our community"

Message from the TCC President

Message from the TCC President

It’s been another busy month with a mix of positive news but still plenty of challenges. On the positive side, it was pleasing to see work starting on the South Quay project (opposite Bunnings). This will bring jobs and more residents close to the Town Centre.  Also, I’m sure the motorists who suffer the peak hour bottleneck in upper Erindale Drive will be pleased to see duplication work finally started.

I did have a brief letter to the Editor published in the Canberra Times stating that the TCC supported the development of the new Tuggeranong Cemetery including a crematorium. This was in reaction to an earlier article that questioned the need for a second crematorium in Canberra. I have been taken to task by some residents who disagree with my view. I accept that this is a controversial topic that needs more community discussion. There will be opportunity for this in the coming months after we see the ACT Cemeteries Board’s final recommendations to the Government.

I was pleased to add my support to Mr Phil King’s plea for the waiving of the ‘late fee’ to be paid before he can proceed with building the $4.5M Aquatic Centre in Calwell. Hopefully, Treasurer Barr will decide in his and Tuggeranong’s  favour.

Our next monthly meeting is at 7.30pm, Tuesday 5th November upstairs in Tuggeranong Southern Cross Club. Our guest speaker is Mr Ben McHugh, Manager Capital Works, ACT Roads. It’s a public meeting so I hope to see you there.
