Over 357 people from every suburb in Tuggeranong responded to our Tuggeranong Livability Survey. The survey highlighted that water quality is the major issue in Tuggeranong followed by concerns over local jobs and the economy, crime and safety and then public transport. When asked what people wanted for Tuggeranong there was an overwhelming response saying they wanted a more vibrant town centre followed by improved water quality and revamping local shopping centres. Respondees were also against light rail and he development of West Greenway (Thompson). A significant proportion of respondees also commented on NBN and the poor connection speeds in Tuggeranong
The Tuggeranong Community Council is currently organising Community Service Awards for students from all Tuggeranong high schools and colleges. We want to recognise students who have volunteered to support the community and community groups. We feel it is important for the community to connect with young people and schools, and, for schools to connect with the community in general. We saw this award as a way of encouraging more students more to become involved with the general community and recognising those that do.
We would also like to establish an ‘Annual Award’ for an individual or a community group who resides or works in Tuggeranong and have contributed significantly to the Tuggeranong region and/or the ACT Community.
Therefore we are now running a brief survey (only 3 questions) to get your ideas. Please look at it by logging onto the survey on our website at www.tuggcc.com.
Our next Tuggeranong Community Council (TCC) meeting will on the 6th December at the Vikings Tuggeranong Town Centre Club. We will hear about the plans to redevelop Guilfoyle House and learn about the proposed ‘new natural play space” at Tuggeranong Town Centre Park. We will then have a small Christmas get together.
