Message from the President January 2015

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWelcome to 2015! I’m excited about the year ahead and look forward to doing our job which is advocating on behalf of the people and businesses of Tuggeranong. So how are we getting the year started?
Our first monthly meeting is on Tuesday 3rd February upstairs in the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Club starting at 7.30pm. I’ve especially invited Lanyonites so that we can discuss the recent closure of Tharwa Dve. The ESA Project Manager and a senior manager from ACT Roads will be there. So will Mick Gentleman (who now has Ministerial responsibility for roads) and, I hope, Joy Burch who is the Minister for Emergency Services. All welcome.
Also at this meeting Dr Karen McPherson will be talking about the new Erindale Community Garden project. This is a garden with an exciting difference and I can’t wait to hear about it.Ongoing issues that the TCC will be acting on during the year are our opposition to the light rail (Canberra Metro) project; Lake Tuggeranong water quality; Ashley Dve duplication and the establishment of a CIT campus in Tuggeranong. We are very keen on any project that brings new life and jobs into the Town Centre. The new South Quay residential and commercial development opposite Bunnings will do just that. We need to look at ways of using the almost vacant buildings between Anketell and Cowlishaw Sts.Recently, we’ve been asked to help residents who are unhappy with Development Applications on properties in their vicinity. Often we can help by guiding them through the process of lodging an objection. If you need help in your dealings with Government agencies, you’ll find our contact details on our website www.tuggcc.com.
