After our public meeting earlier this month, I was really pleased to get lots of positive feedback. Our three guest speakers spoke on topics of high interest to Tuggeranong residents – road works, upgrading of Tuggeranong Town Park and a Government proposal to re-zone to residential land at East Greenway north of the dog exercise enclosures. Lots of questions were asked and ongoing community consultation will result. A good thing. Anyone interested in the re-zoning proposal can attend a ‘drop in’ community consultation session upstairs in the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Club next Tuesday evening (26th August) from 5.00pm to 7.30pm. Our next meeting is Tuesday 2nd September upstairs in the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Club starting at 7.30pm. Our main guest speaker is Opposition Transport Spokesman Alistair Coe. His main topic will be the Capital Metro (light rail) project. TCC members passed a Motion at our July meeting opposing this project mainly because we simply can’t afford it. If you want to read the Motion, you’ll find it on our website www.tuggcc.com. We have written to the Chief Minister advising her of the Motion. They plan in proceeding regardless of majority community opposition. Would it surprise you to know that this project could add $500 or more to your annual rates for the next 30 years if the Government proceeds with their preferred method of financing it? The TCC will continue to actively oppose it because it will send our costs of living through the roof! It is the most expensive infrastructure project any ACT Government has ever undertaken. You need to take a close interest in it. Why not come to the September meeting and hear what Alistair Coe has to say. I hope to see you there.
