Chronicle – Nov 15

Interested in helping out with an activity around Lake Tuggeranong?  Ring 0411161948 if you want to be involved in a revegetation activity around the Wanniassa inlet. The Tuggeranong Lake Carers (TLC) with the support of the Tuggeranong Community Council (TCC) are holding this event on Saturday 28 November from 8.30–11am.  This is one of the few activities the TLC can organise around the Lake as the ongoing Lake closure is causing health concerns leading to us cancel some events on and around the Lake.

The TCC provides opportunities for community consultation on various issues ranging from proposed building and road development to recently been asked by a government instrumentality, the ACT Waste Feasibility Study to help them in their consultation with the community.  At our meetings we also organise guest speakers on topics of interest to the community and provide a forum where residents can bring any issues of concern to our attention.  If these issues are of general interest we can then followup as we have done with Lake issues, working to keep federal employment in Tuggeranong and pushing for a greater CIT presence in Tuggeranong.  We are currently working on involving more young people in the Council and, as a start, are looking to have students from Lake Tuggeranong College being involved with the Council next year.  If you have any other topics you want us to organise speakers for next year please ring us on 0431 235 970.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 1 December, 7.30pm at the Southern Cross Club.  Rural, Urban Fire Brigade and Emergency services people will talk about fire awareness and what to do in the event of an incident.  This will be of great interest to all as we go into the Summer, potential bushfire period.
