TCC Youth Engagement Sub Committee Forum 29th April, 2021

On Thursday the 29th April, the Tuggeranong Community Council’s Youth Engagement Sub Committee, with the support of Communities@Work, is organising its 4th TCC Youth Engagement Forum to find out youth opinion on a number of issues.  Students from all high schools and colleges in the Tuggeranong Valley and anyone else between 16 and 24 who lives in Tuggeranong, is invited.

Sophia Hamblin Wang has agreed to facilitate our Climate Change table.  Sophia recently represented Australia at the first-ever UN Youth Climate Summit in New York and will next year be one of 50 people invited from around the world to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos.  An Australian National University graduate with a Bachelor of International Business (Honours), Sophia is the Chief Operations Officer of Mineral Carbonation International, a technology platform that transforms CO2 into building materials and other valuable building products.

The program for the Forum will be as follows:

  • Meet at 12.30pm – lunch will be provided for all attendee’s (under Covid Safe conditions).
  • The Forum will commence with a brief introduction, after which students will be divided into 8 table groups to discuss a range of topics.
  • Students will be asked their views on the various topics, prompted by the table facilitators who will collate the content of the discussions. The students will rotate around all the tables, so they can offer their ideas and solutions across the variety of topics.
  • Forum ends at 3.00pm.
  • The TCC Youth Engagement Sub Committee will meet to decide on future actions – all are welcome to attend.

All feedback provided from the young people will be collated and a summary report provided to all participating schools. The summary will be circulated to relevant ACT Government Directorates, where applicable.

The Tuggeranong Community Council will incorporate overarching themes into submissions provided to the ACT Government and advocate on behalf of young people within the region.
