Lake Tuggeranong Clean-up

Even though the forecast predicted 100% rain, over 30 people turned up to help with the Lake Tuggeranong Clean-up on 1st November.

It was encouraging that there was a lot less rubbish than in previous years.  This trend is a continuation from our last clean-up event. We believe there could be a range of factors contributing to these changes, such as:

– people are more aware of the consequences of dumping rubbish and refraining from dumping;

– the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) is having a positive impact, where people are choosing to access the CDS to recycle containers;

– the continuous rain in recent months may have washed the rubbish downstream  or, given the lake water level has risen, the rubbish may now be underwater.

Regardless of the cause, it was great to see a reduction in the amount of rubbish, compared to the amount collected in previous years. We hope this trend continues.

The next Lake clean-up will be on ‘Clean-up Australia Day’ on the 7th March 2021.

Please come along one and all to help keep our lake foreshores clean.
