Letter to:

Minister Mick Gentleman
Minister for Police and Emergency Services

The Tuggeranong community is concerned about recent gun violence and arson to vehicles in Kambah, Isabella Plains and in nearby Waramanga in recent weeks attributed to motorcycle gangs.

In light of this, the Tuggeranong Community Council Executive would like your response to the following:

  • Are police numbers in Tuggeranong and across the ACT sufficient to deal with the seemingly increasing number of incidents involving gun violence attributed to motorcycle gangs in the region?
  • Are the laws in the ACT adequate in dealing with this type of gang related violence, or do you see further measures that could be taken from a policy and legislative perspective to reduce this violence without impacting on human rights?
  • What liaison is there between jurisdictions to address gang related violence? Is this adequate when dealing with a growing number of incidents attributed to motorcycle gangs here in the ACT?

Thank you for your consideration, we look forward to your response.
