Community meeting for proposed Hume plastic to fuel facility

Two community meetings will be held as part of the public hearing process to give Canberrans the chance to voice concerns about the proposed Hume facility.

An independent inquiry panel was established in late January to review the FOY proposal for Hume, and report on the findings to the Minister for Planning and Land Management, Mick Gentleman.  As part of the inquiry, a public meeting will bring together community concerns for the panel to understand all issues.

“The meetings will form part of the expert panel’s thorough inquiry to see if there are any potential issues, particularly around public health and the environment,” Minister Gentleman said.

The inquiry panel will hold two sessions to meet with the community and stakeholders to hear views about the proposal.

The first session will be held on Monday 6 March at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre between 3.00pm and 7.00pm. People can attend during this time to listen as well as contribute to discussions relating to the proposal and Inquiry panel process.

A second session will be held on Tuesday 7 March at the Tuggeranong Community Centre between 12.00pm and 4.30pm. This second session will outline the panel’s role and responsibilities, followed by an opportunity for attendees to clarify and collectively discuss the key concerns raised through the EIS process.

“The public hearing sessions will ensure the Inquiry panel has a strong understanding of community concerns in relation to this proposal, “Minister Gentleman concluded.
