Successful Brindabella Candidates Forum

Sixteen candidates attended the Brindabella Candidates Froum held on Wednesday 14th September at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre.  We had candidates from all parties standing in Brindabella including Labour, Liberals, Greens, Like Canberra, Sex and Animal Justice as well as an Independent. Genevieve Jacobs did a brilliant job keeping people on track and to time.  I think the audience got a lot out of it and it was a very worthwhile event. We learnt a lot about the candidates and I hope they learnt a lot about us and the needs of Tuggeranong community.

For the first time we actively used Facebook to promote an event.  Our new secretary and the new coordinator of the Community Health and Education subcommittee, are actively looking after the TCC Facebook presence on Facebook, which we want to use more of in the future to promote future events and update the Tuggeranong community about what is happening in our area.

So far we have over 240 responses to our Tuggeranong Livability Survey, we want more, so if you have not filled in the survey please do so by typing in www.tuggcc.com  We will run the survey up until the election and would like to double this number. Information and suggestions from this survey will help the committee to decide on priorities for the future.

The preliminary sketch plans for Lake Tuggeranong Catchment prepared by the ACT Healthy Waterways section of the Government were shown on 15th September at the Tuggeranong Library. They included specific information about the proposed projects including access and thoroughfares, the potential impact on existing vegetation, proposed landscaping, the location/relocation of paths, cross sections, embankment treatments and dam heights.  Construction will begin on the first project next year.

Our next Tuggeranong Community Council (TCC) meeting is on the 64h October at the Vikings Tuggeranong Town Centre Club. We will hear about the plans for the Guilfoyle site at South Quay and then the CEO of the Tuggeranong Arts Centre will give us a bit of background on the Centre and tell us what is happing in the coming months .
