Chronicle – Jun 15

It is a sad month for all of us on the Tuggeranong Community Council, as we learnt of the passing of our much loved and dedicated Tuggeranong Community Council (TCC) President, Eric Traise.

Eric passed away early Monday morning, 13 July after a long illness. The retired Royal Australian Air Force Officer from Newcastle served on the TCC for many years as a general member, Treasurer and TCC President in 2013 and, despite his illness, he stood and was re-elected for 2nd term in September 2014.  He also served as Chair of Canberra Airport’s Community Aviation Consultative Group.

The TCC Executive and general members express their deepest sympathies to Carole and members of the family at this sad time. A private family service was held on Friday 17 July with a memorial service to be held at 2.00pm on Friday 14 August in the Common Room of University House at ANU.

Eric wanted to engage younger members of our community in the work of the Council and I am pleased to say at our last meeting we agreed to create an Activity Sub Committee, that could involve more of our younger people. Meetings held with Tuggeranong Action Group to determine our common interests have resulted with the formation of this subcommittee, which will work to develop various ways to promote Tuggeranong.

Other events this month included meetings about the Tuggeranong Festival and the Tuggeranong Footsteps to Follow awards program. I am pleased to say that the Tuggeranong Festival will held in November and its convenor, Stuart Thompson, with be giving us details about it at our August meeting. Beverley Flint will be helping promote the Tuggeranong Footsteps to Follow awards program.

Just a reminder, that our AGM will be held on Tuesday the 1st September. Please consider nominating for the committee. Details will on our TCC website including nomination forms.

At the next TCC meeting (4th August), the Asbestos Response Task Force will give us an update about what is happening and Stuart Thompson, Convenor of the Tuggeranong Festival will talk to us about the upcoming Tuggeranong Festival to be held in November.  A Police report and updates by Tuggeranong MLA’S are also a regular spots at our Council meetings.   Come along and have a chat to the MLA’s and join in all the interesting discussions of the evening.
